Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
In Germany, around one in three people suffers from thyroid problems, with a lack of thyroid hormones (underactive function) being common. About three percent of the population develops a chronic inflammatory condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis (also known as Hashimoto's for short).
This autoimmune disease causes the body's immune system to mistakenly attack the cells of the thyroid gland. This disease usually occurs between the ages of 30 and 50, with women being affected more often. The signs are often initially misinterpreted as menopausal symptoms.
There are two forms of Hashimoto's thyroiditis:
Atrophic form
The thyroid tissue is gradually destroyed and the thyroid shrinks. This form is the most common.
Hypertrophic form
In the rarer form, the thyroid gland enlarges and a palpable goiter (goiter) forms.

Causes of Hashimoto Thyroiditis
Causes of Hashimoto Thyroiditis
The exact triggers for Hashimoto's are still being fully researched. It is discussed that family predisposition, hormonal changes (such as birth or menopause), psychological stress, severe viral infections (such as Pfeiffer's glandular fever, shingles) and hormonal problems of the adrenal cortex can be possible triggers.
Environmental influences
Environmental influences are also discussed, such as exposure to heavy metals, pesticides and numerous other everyday toxins. But smoking, stress, infections (especially hepatitis type C), an excess of iodine and a deficiency of selenium or vitamin D are also discussed as triggers for inflammation of the thyroid.
Symptoms of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Hashimoto's does not usually cause pain and therefore often goes unnoticed. Initially, temporarily high levels of thyroid hormones may occur, causing signs of hyperthyroidism such as weight loss, nervousness, and heart palpitations.
As the inflammation progresses and further damages the thyroid tissue, it leads to an underactive thyroid. The slowing of metabolic processes can lead to the following symptoms:
⎯⎯• Exhaustion and tiredness
⎯⎯• Dejection and depressive mood
⎯⎯• Memory problems and difficulty concentrating
⎯⎯• Freezing and sensitivity to cold
⎯⎯• Constipation and bloated stomach
⎯⎯• Weight gain despite a normal diet
⎯⎯• Dry skin, brittle hair and hair loss
⎯⎯• Susceptibility to infections
⎯⎯• Compulsion to clear the throat and cough, voice changes
⎯⎯• Menstrual cycle disorder in women
⎯⎯• Potency disorders in men
⎯⎯• Cardiac arrhythmia, slow heartbeat
⎯⎯• Water retention
⎯⎯• Hearing loss
⎯⎯• Muscle pain
Depending on the course and severity, different symptoms can occur in each patient and not all symptoms always occur.
Treatment options for Hashimoto's thyroiditis
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is not curable. It is treated with hormone tablets that compensate for the lack of thyroid hormones. Treatment is usually aimed at relieving symptoms, balancing hormone levels by administering hormones and slowing the progression of the disease. However, this does not cure the autoimmune disease.
Other influencing factors such as diet, stress, environmental influences and even the quality of sleep have a significant influence on the long-term success of the therapy, the improvement of symptoms and the effective prevention of new attacks in Hashimoto.
Because the immune system is overactive in Hashimoto's, it is crucial to minimize potential triggers for this overreaction as much as possible.
INUSpheresis®
INUSpheresis® as an accompanying therapy for Hashimoto
In the case of Hashimoto's, the first priority is to get the antibodies' attacks on the thyroid under control and thus bring the inflammation levels to the lowest possible range.
Therefore, at ELLANN® we use INUSpheresis® as a useful complementary therapy option to specifically remove heavy metals and other environmental toxins as well as inflammatory proteins.
There have already been various studies on the effectiveness of theINUSpheresis® carried out. These show promising results in the treatment of various diseases such asUlcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis,Polyneuropathy,Crohn's disease. We have put together some interesting studies for you here.

INUSpheresis® was developed to remove a variety of disease-promoting substances and toxic substances from the blood. These include environmental toxins, heavy metals, allergens, metabolic products, inflammatory messengers, infection toxins and harmful proteins. Specially developed filters make it possible to specifically filter out these pollutants while preserving healthy components of the blood. INUSpherese® does not affect your vaccination protection because antibodies and immune cells that are responsible for your vaccination protection are preserved. This makes INUSpheresis® an extremely effective method for cleaning blood plasma and supporting general well-being and health.
INUSpheresis® is not a conventional blood wash or plasma exchange method. It is also not dialysis, in which urinary substances are filtered out. INUSpheresis® is characterized by the targeted removal of harmful substances, while essential and healthy components of your blood remain untouched. This includes vital electrolytes, proteins, nutrients, blood cells and antibodies. The use of specially developed filters ensures that only pathogenic contamination is removed during the treatment. This makes the treatment particularly gentle and generally very well tolerated.
The number of INUSpherese® treatments required depends on your individual health status and health goals. A basic cycle of two treatments within 48 hours is recommended. For more intensive needs, such as extensive heavy metal elimination or complex clinical pictures, a third and even fourth treatment session every 6 to 7 weeks can make sense. Your personal treatment plan will be drawn up by our doctors after a detailed consultation.
An INUSpherese® therapy, which consists of two treatments, accompanying infusion concepts and a preparatory medical consultation, is usually priced between €5,400 and €5,700. This cost information is intended to serve as a rough guide, as the exact investment can vary depending on your individual health condition and any additional therapy options. As part of the therapy planning, you will receive detailed advice and a detailed cost overview that is individually tailored to your health goals.
